The Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH), which is the default supplier for electric customers in Exeter, announced new supply rates on June 29th. These rates will be effective from August 1st 2026 to January 31, 2027. The new fixed rate in Unitil’s area is 15.53 cents per kWh, 2.7% higher than the current rate. For the average customer this will mean a monthly cost increase of about $4. The increase reflects increases in energy supply costs and includes a 0.67 cent per kWh set aside to further build CPCNH reserves to recover from energy cost surges in the winter of 2024-25.
Unitil has also announced new rates for the same period. Their new fixed rate will increase by 19.3% to 14.35 cents per kWh. For the average customer this will mean a monthly electric bill increase of about $15. The increase reflects increases in energy supply cost and a 2.1 cent per kWh reconciliation to recover losses over the past year resulting from energy supply rates that were set below cost. While Unitil rates have increased sharply, they remain slightly below CPCNH’s new rates.
As reminder, Exeter electric customers can opt in or out of CPCNH as their default energy supplier at any time without penalty or fees. It will take one full billing cycle to change service, which could be more than 30 days, depending on when the switch is initiated. Note that if you sign up for Unitil’s supply service in the middle of a rate period you may be placed on their monthly variable rate (which may be higher or lower than the fixed 6 month rate) until the next rate period.
