The Exeter 250 Celebration Commission invites the public to attend the opening of the American Independence Center (formerly the American Independence Museum) on May 1st, 2026.
The Museum at American Independence Center opens for the season on May 1 with the traditional tour covering America's colonial and revolutionary beginnings. New this year are two innovative and immersive exhibits that tell the rest of the story of American independence:
The Republic Room takes visitors through American history from 1790 to the present with artifacts and displays, examining abolition and suffrage, civil war and civil rights, asking guests to reflect on what it means to be an American.
Amending America is a new ten-year exploration of the Bill of Rights, beginning in 2026 with the First Amendment. Visitors will learn about why freedom of expression was so important to 18th century Americans, and about how these rights are interpreted in the 21st century.
The Museum is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. Guided tours begin every hour on the hour. Free admission includes the exhibits at the 1721 Ladd-Gilman House as well as the 1775 Folsom Tavern.
