2026 will mark the United States' Sestercentennial anniversary of its independence.

The Exeter 250 Celebration Commission has been established and tasked with organizing, arranging and coordinating thematic tributes to the American Revolution, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the “Great Experiment” of democracy.

Our Story:

By 1776, the rising sentiment for independence in New Hampshire had found its center in the revolutionary capital of Exeter. It was here that the Declaration was first read. It was here that the first state constitution was drafted. And it was from here that the call went forth that the time had come to fight for a free America. In the decades since the Revolution, Exeter has been home to endless stories that embody the large and complicated story of America. Stories that highlight the courage, the strength, and the resilience of our forebears and our neighbors.The Exeter 250 Celebration Commission invites the broader Exeter community to share in the celebration of our shared independence and the celebration of those stories – the familiar and the untold alike. Want to get involved? Have a 250 Related event? Or do you want to help fund the celebrations?

The Exeter 250 Celebration Commission is working with various community groups to organize events throughout 2026 to celebrate the founding of the nation. If your organization has a 250 related event, submit your event to be included in the Exeter 250 Community Events Calendar by filling out our Event Submission Form.

To pull off these events, the commission needs YOUR help! Fill out the Volunteer Form if you're interested in assisting the commission with celebrating the 250 in Exeter.
