Canadian Wildfire Smoke Causes Hazy Skies in Exeter

Canadian wildfire smoke blows over Exeter causing hazy skies

Exeter, NH - May 30th, 2023: Plumes of smoke from raging wildfires in Canada have made their way to our area, prompting hundreds of calls to both Exeter Dispatch and Rockingham County dispatch reporting a smell of smoke.

We are evaluating each call, but as of yet none has resulted in finding any local fires in the area and it appears all are related to the smoke generated by the Canadian fires.

The smoke has created a haze in the air, which we expect will continue. Those with breathing difficulties are advised to stay inside whenever possible.

While we’ve been investigating the smoke-related fire calls and do not believe there are any active fires in our area, we still encourage people to call 911 and make a report if they see smoke coming from someone’s home or property, but if it appears to be a general haze and smell it is very likely to be from the Canadian wildfires.
