PATROL DIVISION

Patrol

The Patrol Division of the Exeter Police Department is the largest and most visible component of the agency, providing around-the-clock law enforcement services to the community. Staffed by seventeen sworn officers and overseen by Lieutenant Devin West, the division delivers 24-hour coverage, with personnel assigned to designated sectors throughout the town to ensure efficient response and proactive policing.

Patrol officers serve as the first point of contact between the department and the public. They are responsible for responding to calls for service, enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and maintaining a visible presence to deter crime. Officers routinely conduct traffic enforcement, investigate motor vehicle accidents, and assist with emergency situations, including medical calls and public safety hazards.

In addition to reactive duties, patrol officers engage in proactive policing strategies. These include conducting property checks, monitoring high-traffic or high-risk areas, and building relationships with community members to promote trust and cooperation. Officers also prepare detailed reports, gather and preserve evidence, and may make arrests when necessary.

Overall, the Patrol Division plays a critical role in maintaining public safety, preserving order, and enhancing the quality of life within the community through both enforcement and community-oriented policing efforts.
