Professional Standards
The Exeter Police Department is proud to have achieved CALEA accreditation in 2025 following a comprehensive three-year process. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is the nation’s premier credentialing authority for public safety agencies, setting rigorous professional standards that promote accountability, transparency, and operational excellence. Accreditation through CALEA signifies that a police department meets best-practice benchmarks in areas such as policy development, training, use of force, community engagement, and administrative procedures. For communities, it provides reassurance that their police department is committed to continuous improvement and the highest level of professional service.
This effort involved a thorough review and modernization of policies, extensive staff training, and an in-depth assessment by independent evaluators. The process was overseen by Professional Standards Lieutenant Steven Bolduc, whose leadership ensured that the department not only met but embraced CALEA’s high standards.
CALEA accreditation is not a one-time accomplishment but an ongoing commitment. The Exeter Police Department will undergo reaccreditation in 2028, a process that ensures continued compliance with evolving best practices in law enforcement. Through this sustained effort, the department remains dedicated to delivering professional, ethical, and community-focused policing for the residents of Exeter.
Beyond accreditation efforts, the Professional Standards Division plays a critical role in maintaining the overall effectiveness and readiness of the Exeter Police Department. The division is responsible for overseeing, scheduling, and documenting all training for sworn personnel, ensuring officers remain current with legal updates, best practices, and evolving public safety standards. In addition, the division researches and evaluates new equipment and technology to support officers in the field, carefully testing tools to enhance both safety and efficiency. The Professional Standards Division also leads recruitment efforts, working to identify, attract, and guide qualified candidates through the hiring process to build a strong, professional, and community-focused police force.
