Learn to Make Sourdough Bread And Go Home with A Starter!

EVENT: Local baker and bread making queen, Marie Holt, a resident of Stratham, will be teaching us the art of making a sourdough start kit in the new community center located at 10 Hampton Road in Exeter. We will provide the flour and a whole sourdough starter kit that includes a 9” round banneton bread proofing basket, 10- inch oval bread proofing basket, 24 oz glass starter jar, silicone bread sling, dough whisk, dough cutter, plastic scraper, scoring lame with 4 blades, silicone spatula, silicone basting brush, bread bags, sourdough recipe and silicone bread mat. You take the starter kit home! Note, EPRD does not have an oven, participants will need to bake their sourdough bread at home. Marie will provide fresh baked break for tasting during the class! All students will leave with their starter kit, loaf of bread to bake and established starter of their own.

REGISTRATION: Registration for Exeter residents open Monday December 1. Registration for non-residents opens Monday, December 8. Registration is available online, over the phone or in person at 10 Hampton Road.

DATE: January 13, 2026

TIME: Class begins at 1:00pm and will end around 3:00pm, depending on Q&A.

FEE: The Fee is $35.00 for residents and $45 for non-residents. Fee includes everything needed to make your own sourdough including flour, start kit (supplies listed above) and a dough starter or “mother dough”.

LOCATION: This program will be held in room 108 in the Exeter Community Center.

DEADLINE: The deadline to register Jan 9, 2026. Note: We need a minimum of 8 people registered. Max of 12 people.

REFUNDS: No refunds after tickets/reservations have been purchased unless we can find a replacement for your spot in the program.*

*Medical Injury/Illness Policy: If there is a medically documented injury/illness we will prorate a refund after we receive written medical varication from your physician which must be received prior to the trip.

PLEASE MAKE YOUR CHECK PAYABLE TO THE EXETER RECREATION DEPARTMENT. REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED BY THE VENUE, WEATHER OR WE DID NOT MEET MINIMUM REGISTRATIONS. THERE WILL BE A $20 FEE CHARGED FOR EACH BANK RETURNED CHECK.
