Main Street Pen Pal 2025
Main Street Pen Pals
Launching October 2025
Calling All Volunteers Age 50+!
Main Street Pen Pals is a heartwarming intergenerational letter-writing program that connects adults aged 50 and over with curious and creative 1st grade students from Main Street School. Starting in October 2025, participants will exchange handwritten letters once or twice a month throughout the school year, building meaningful relationships, improving literacy, and creating joyful connections between generations.
How It Works
- Classroom Connections: Each volunteer will be assigned to a 1st grade class at Main Street School (rather than an individual student). You'll write one letter each month, and your letter will be shared with the class as a whole. In return, the class will send a group response back to you.
- Monthly Letter Exchange: Letters will be exchanged once a month from October through May—that’s 8 opportunities to connect, share stories, and make a difference in a young student's life.
- Register online as a volunteer.
- Submit your letter in one of two ways:
- Email it to the Senior Program Coordinator at LWarriner@ExeterNH.gov
- Drop off a handwritten letter at the NEW Exeter Community Center, located at: 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833
- Coordinated by Parks & Rec: The letter exchange is managed by the Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Main Street School. They will ensure letters are delivered safely and on schedule—no direct contact or personal information will be exchanged between pen pals.
