Sustainable Partner Program for Local Businesses and Organizations
The Town of Exeter Sustainability Advisory Committee is proud to announce the launch of the Sustainable Exeter Partner Program, a new initiative designed to recognize and celebrate local businesses and organizations that are taking meaningful steps to reduce their environmental impact.
Through this program, participants can earn one of four certification tiers — Baseline, Bronze, Silver, or Gold — based on the number of sustainable practices they currently have in place. The process is simple and accessible: businesses complete a checklist-style form identifying actions they already take, such as energy efficiency measures, waste reduction practices, sustainable sourcing, water conservation efforts, or community engagement initiatives. The more points earned, the higher the certification tier achieved.
“Our goal is to make participation easy and encouraging,” said the Sustainability Advisory Committee member Sarah Koff. “Many businesses are already doing great work to reduce their environmental footprint—work that isn’t always recognized or even known by their customers. We hope this program will encourage our community to support these efforts and inspire as many businesses to join in as possible.”
Benefits of Participation
Certified businesses and organizations will receive:
- Official Recognition: A linked listing with certification tier displayed on the Sustainable Exeter page of the Town’s official website.
- Certification Materials: A physical certificate sticker to display in a storefront window and a digital seal to add to websites and marketing materials.
- Community Promotion: Occasional features on town social media channels highlighting participating businesses and their specific sustainability efforts.
The Sustainability Advisory Committee hopes the program will foster a strong sense of shared purpose across the community, wanting residents and visitors alike to feel confident that Exeter’s business community is working together to support a healthier environment. When we recognize and promote these efforts, we build momentum and show that sustainability is a community-wide commitment.
The Sustainable Exeter Partner Program is open to businesses and organizations of all sizes located in Exeter. There is no cost to participate.
