CRIMINAL INVESTGATIVE DIVISION

CID

The Criminal Investigative Division (CID) of the Exeter Police Department is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations into serious and complex crimes. Staffed by four Detectives and overseen by Detective Sergeant Peter Tilton, the division works closely with patrol officers, outside agencies, and the community to ensure thorough and professional case development.

Detectives in the CID handle a wide range of investigations, including felony offenses, property crimes, crimes against persons, and other incidents requiring specialized investigative techniques. They are responsible for collecting and analyzing evidence, conducting interviews and interrogations, preparing search and arrest warrants, and working with prosecutors to bring cases to court. The division also manages case documentation, maintains investigative records, and may assist in crime scene processing when needed.

In addition to investigative duties, CID personnel often collaborate with patrol officers by providing guidance on initial case handling and assisting with major incidents. They may also participate in community outreach efforts and crime prevention initiatives.
