2026 Oaklands Town Forest Spring Trail Work

Image of trail map

The Exeter Conservation Commission in partnership with members of Fort Rock Riders mountain bike group, have been working through the winter and early spring to evaluate and redesign several sections of trails within the Oaklands Town Forest.

Three project areas have been identified and are shown on the attached map

The goal of these re-designs are to:

  1. Consolidate trails and multiple braids in close proximity to each other in sensitive habitat areas,
  2. Provide less technical access to trials north of the power lines in order to disperse pressure from parking and trail use volume, allowing for legacy trails to return to normal widths, and
  3. Provide an alternate to the Hamburger Hill climb allowing users to avoid during wetter seasons, or a more moderate climbing option.

These project concepts were discussed during the Exeter Conservation Commission's meetings, all of which are available for viewing at the following links:  12/9/25, 1/13/26, 2/10/26, 4/14/26, and 4/22/26

We appreciated the public's support by adhering to any trail closure signage, to allow for proper restoration.
