Cold Temperatures – Help Prevent Frozen Pipes

prevent frozen pipes

With extremely cold temperatures approaching, the Public Works Department would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to protect their homes and plumbing.

To help prevent frozen pipes:

  • Maintain water flow – Allow a small, steady drip from faucets, especially those on exterior walls
  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes
  • Keep thermostats set consistently, even overnight or when away
  • Seal drafts near pipes located in basements, crawl spaces, or exterior walls
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses and ensure interior shut-off valves are closed

No water or suspect frozen pipes?

During business hours (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), contact Public Works at 603-773-6157 to see if there is a widespread water service interruption; if not you would then need to contact a plumber.
After hours, weekends, or holidays, please call Non-Emergency Dispatch at 603-772-1212

Taking these precautions now can help prevent damage, costly repairs, and service disruptions. Stay warm and safe!
