Save Water, Exeter: Level 3 Water Use Restrictions
July 13, 2026: The Selectboard has approved a reduction in water use restrictions from Level 4 to Level 3, pursuant to Exeter Town Ordinance, Chapter 16, Section 1610.5.
The Town appreciates the cooperation of residents and businesses in conserving water and helping to protect our community's water resources. Residents are encouraged to continue using water efficiently whenever possible.
Water Conservation
The Town of Exeter Public Works Department together with the Exeter Select Board will decide to enforce water use restrictions IF the State of New Hampshire drought monitor reflects the Rockingham County in a drought. NH Drought Monitor information can be found in the link below.
These Activities are Restricted for Level 3:
- Landscape watering by odd-numbered addresses is allowed on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Landscape watering by even-numbered addresses is allowed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Landscape watering shall not occur between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm.
First Violation: Written Warning
Second Violation: $100 Fine
Third Violation: $500 Fine and Water Shut Off
RSA 41:11-d Restricting the Watering of Lawns. – I. The local governing body may establish regulations (see Exeter Town Ordinance 1610.2) restricting the use of water from private wells or public water systems for outdoor lawn watering when administrative agencies of the state or federal government have designated the region as being under a declared state or condition of drought. The grass playing turf of a recreational field, the grass playing surfaces of a golf course, and grass agricultural fields, including fields used for the production of sod, may be excluded from any restrictions pursuant to this paragraph.
Conserve water to preserve it for drinking, sanitation, safety fire suppression.

Rain Barrels
The Public Works Water Sewer team has taken the initiative to upcycle previously used, 35-gallon chemical barrels (cleaned) to be re-purposed as rain barrels. The crew can drill the necessary holes for easy assembly. The parts list below will help make sure you can get started right away. To reserve your barrel, please get in touch with the Public Works Office. Let us know when you will pick it up.
