Exeter Issued Level 4 Water Restriction

Due to Rockingham County being recently classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor to be experiencing moderate drought conditions, the Town has issued a Level 4 water use restriction as described in Exeter’s Town Ordinance Chapter 16 section 1610.5 effective September 5, 2025.  The Town water supplies are finite and decreasing with only minor precipitation predicted.

Curbside Collection
Thu 4/10/25

Trash and recycle pick-up will be ON SCHEDULE during the week of Columbus Day, October 13th. Please have your trash and recycling curbside before 7am on your normal pick-up day. Town Offices and the Public Works Office will be closed on Monday, October 13th. The Transfer Station will be operating on its normal hours of operation (Tuesday, 9-1; Friday & Saturday, 9-2:30).

Light snow will move into the area after midnight, with an inch or so of accumulation before the Thursday morning commute. The snow will change to rain mid to late morning, before ending late in the day.

Hampton Road and High Street Cross Country Sewer Maintenance
Fri 11/15/24

The Exeter Public Works Department will be mowing the cross-country sewer main along the Town’s right-of-way from Phinney Lane to Gilman Lane. This work is set to begin on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Mowing will be performed during the day between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Weather permitting this work will take approximately two (2 ) weeks to complete. The equipment to be used will be a mini-tracked excavator with a flail mower. The work is expected to be finished by November 26th, weather permitting. Abutters of this project will be notified.

Permit Requirement: Per Town Ordinance (Chapter 11 - 1101.1), Transfer Station permits must be affixed to the inside lower left corner of the vehicle's windshield for entry validation and traffic flow.

6/27/2025: The Transfer Station will be closed on Friday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day and will re-open on Saturday, July 5th 9am - 2:30pm.

Transfer Station Permit Reminder:  As stated in the Town Ordinance (chapter 11 - 1101.1) Transfer Station permits must be affixed to the windshield, on the inside lower left corner, of each resident's vehicle. This allows the attendant to validate entry and improve traffic flow.

Squamscott River Siphon Improvement Project regularly updated

7/26/24 - The sewers are all constructed and active as required by the project.  The previous siphon has been discontinued.  For next week, there is another sewer manhole cover in the parkway that needs to be lowered and landscaping activities will continue.

9/5/24 - On Friday, September 6th the Highway Department will be cleaning out the catch basins on Elm Street starting at 5am until noon. Crews will be out today posting "No Parking" signs near the catch basins to ensure the crews have access. Some noise is anticipated while we use the Vactor truck. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

7/26/24 - The roadway shoulders and sidewalks are completely paved.  Next week pavement striping will occur after a NHDOT inspection and approval.  The loamed areas will be hydroseeded.  There will be ongoing periodic work around the rapid flashing pedestrian beacon to install additional overhead lighting.

Winter Emergency Parking Bans
Thu 11/30/23

2/18/2025: Overnight Snow Removal: Public Works crews, with the assistance of contractors, will be conducting overnight snow removal operations in the Downtown Area (Water Street, Center Street, High Street to Buzzell Ave, Front Street to Spring Street), and on Lincoln Street and Portsmouth Ave, to clear intersections and remove accumulated snow from high-traffic areas. Operations will begin at 11:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19th, and continue through the night. Please avoid these areas if possible. Work will include the use of  snowblowers, sidewalk tractors, front-end loaders and dump trucks, and will generate noise during operations. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to keep the community safe.
