UPDATE - May 29, 2025: Representatives from NH DOT and the Town of Exeter recently met to discuss the future of the Park Street Bridge. At this time, no final decision has been made regarding the bridge plans. 

The Exeter Public Works Department will be mowing the cross-country sewer main along the Town’s right-of-way from Phinney Lane to Gilman Lane. This work is set to begin on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Mowing will be performed during the day between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Weather permitting this work will take approximately two (2 ) weeks to complete. The equipment to be used will be a mini-tracked excavator with a flail mower. The work is expected to be finished by November 26th, weather permitting. Abutters of this project will be notified.

Paving for the 2025 season will begin this week, starting on Drinkwater Road. On Wednesday, June 11th, crews will be on-site to install the base course of pavement. This work is expected to take 2 days to complete. Following this initial work, crews will be working over the next few weeks to repair and adjust drainage, water, sewer, and gas structures in preparation for a final full-width overlay of the roadway later this summer. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

Transfer Station Permit Reminder:  As stated in the Town Ordinance (chapter 11 - 1101.1) Transfer Station permits must be affixed to the windshield, on the inside lower left corner, of each resident's vehicle. This allows the attendant to validate entry and improve traffic flow.

Epping Road Widening - Continental Drive to Cronin Road

7/26/24 - The sewers are all constructed and active as required by the project.  The previous siphon has been discontinued.  For next week, there is another sewer manhole cover in the parkway that needs to be lowered and landscaping activities will continue.  

7/26/24 - The roadway shoulders and sidewalks are completely paved.  Next week pavement striping will occur after a NHDOT inspection and approval.  The loamed areas will be hydroseeded.  There will be ongoing periodic work around the rapid flashing pedestrian beacon to install additional overhead lighting.

The Public Works Department conducted an evaluation of existing town roadway intersections to inform decisions on future expenditure of Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funds and provide a base for further future evaluation.

2/23/2024: Late last night (2/22/2024) a water main break occurred at the intersection of Gary Lane and Court Street. Water service was shut off and remained off for some time during the repair. Residents in this area may experience discolored water.

2/18/2025: Overnight Snow Removal: Public Works crews, with the assistance of contractors, will be conducting overnight snow removal operations in the Downtown Area (Water Street, Center Street, High Street to Buzzell Ave, Front Street to Spring Street), and on Lincoln Street and Portsmouth Ave, to clear intersections and remove accumulated snow from high-traffic areas. Operations will begin at 11:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19th, and continue through the night. Please avoid these areas if possible. Work will include the use of  snowblowers, sidewalk tractors, front-end loaders and dump trucks, and will generate noise during operations. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to keep the community safe.

Fall leaf pick-up will be during the week of Thanksgiving, November 20th-25th.
